My daughters like that the patterns are enlargable. You can make your creature any size you like. They have made mini plucky chickens that turned out really cute. I have one on my desk at work.
When I moved from TX to NH, it's one of the few books that I hand-carried in my car. (In other words, non-crafters will enjoy this book, too).If you like structure, this book may be disappointing.
In fact, after giving a copy to my daughter, I realized that I had to own a copy, too.One warning: This book is light on instructions. I love this book.
"Plush-o-Rama" is also perfect for people who collect whimsical and highly original handmade dolls and figures. The patterns provide the general idea, but you'll need to enlarge them.
and perhaps tweak them. But, for me anyway, that's the whole point of wonderful, expressive plush dolls and figures: They should be very personal, very informal, and utterly charming as a result. This book is ideal for experienced dollmakers, and imaginative beginners who want to create their own, unique plush figures. It's still good but it's not written for people who need precise, full-size patterns and detailed instructions. If you want a book that sparks your imagination, and you're ready to wake up in the middle of the night saying, "Ooh, I have to sketch (or sew) that idea right now," you'll love this book. It's one of my favorites.
I rarely give a book a five-star review, but -- for me -- this one earned it.
These are hilarious. You can use it to create them yourself or give them the book for them to choose and make their own. They do require someone who knows what they are doing with a needle and thread but they are so much fun. If you or someone you know LOVES stuffed critters then this is your permanent source for all birthday and Christmas presents. It is just so delightful. :D
The projects in this book are really creative and fun to make. I get the feeling though, that the book isn't specifically designed to help you perfectly recreate the creatures within, but rather to act as a jumping off point for you to create your own.Don't get me wrong, the book does come with instructions and patterns, but on occasion, I find the instructions to be vague, and the shapes of the patterns in the back of the book aren't always the same as what I see in the photos of the finished products. If you're looking for a book to inspire you and give you a push toward making your own creatures (and it helps if you have a slightly twisted sense of humor), this book is for you.
This is a great book for kids and adults some really cool ideas and patterns leads you to even more ideas of your own. Why pay high prices for those strange creatures in our imagination. Make it your own, make it yourself and use your choice of materials. (some of the pre-made dolls are made with shabby materials)
